The sole purpose of the TSKgel SuperH-RC reference column is to generate back pressure for the reference pump as it delivers constant flow to the reference cell of the RI detector. As the analytical column, the reference column is housed in the column oven.

The reference column only requires replacement when the pressure in the column has become substantially higher than that in the analytical column, or when the baseline has become unstable due to contamination of the reference column.
